Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico Premiers their Prestigious Gran Selezione in

Vancouver & Calgary, Canada

Miami, FL – April 23, 2015 – Known worldwide for its distinctive symbol, the Black Rooster estates return to North America to unveil to trade and media the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico's premium level of wine, the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione on Wednesday, May 6, in Vancouver and Thursday, May 7, in Calgary. It is the first denomination in the world to introduce, in modern times, a new type at the summit of its quality pyramid, positioned above the Chianti Classico Riserva and the Chianti Classico Annata (year's vintage); a top edition that is the perfect balance between elegance and potency, great structure and ageability. Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is a wine that responds solely and exclusively to criteria for high-range placement and it was immediately projected into a well-defined market space when it was introduced in 2014. Twenty of Italy's most distinguished producers will introduce their Chianti Classico vintages. The attendees will learn first-hand from the producers what makes the Gran Selezione Chianti Classico's top-tier wine, including its virtues and characteristics that elegantly express the Tuscan wineries' grandest selections, along with their Chianti Classico latest releases and Riservas.

On May 6, the tastings will be held at the the Fairmont Waterfront Vancouver (900 Canada Place) which will include a morning trade seminar and guided tasting of the Gran Selezione led by respected Master of Wine, Barbara Philip, followed by a walk-around trade event from 1 pm to 5 pm.

On May 7, the same program will be presented at the Ranchmen's Club in Calgary (710 13th Avenue). A seminar and guided tasting of the Gran Selezione will be moderated by well-known journalist Linda Garson with a diverse panel of distinct wine trade including chef and owner of Centini Restaurant - Fabio Centini, wine store sommelier coordinator - Mike Roberts, and famed journalist - Tom Firth, followed by an afternoon tasting for media and trade from 1 pm to 5 pm.

"There are many opportunities for Chianti Classico wineries interested in selling into the Canadian market – comments Sergio Zingarelli, President of the ConsorzioWine is growing in popularity as the beverage of choice. Not only are the consumer tastes more refined, Canadians are more willing than ever to pay more for a quality wine. I foresee a great success for our Gran Selezione."

In 2014 overall sales of Black Rooster wines rose 5% thanks to further growth in exports, which in 2014 reached 82% of output, the highest ever. Canada accounted for 10% of the overall exports, making it the third best market for Chianti Classico wine.

Wineries to be showcased at the tastings are: Bibbiano, Borgo Salcetino, Borgo Scopeto, Carobbio, Casa Sola, Casina di Cornia, Castello di Cacchiano, Castello di Gabbiano, Casuccio Tarletti, Cennatoio, Felsina, Fontodi, I Fabbri, Istine, Marchesi Antinori, Principe Corsini - Villa Le Corti, Rocca delle Macie, Rocca di Castagnoli, Rodano and Vignavecchia.

The Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico was founded in 1924 to provide the regulation of and promotion for the Chianti Classico D.O.C.G., the historical winemaking region comprised of 172,900 acres in the heart of Tuscany. Its boundaries were formally defined in 1932, the word "Classico" (translated to "the first" or "the original") was attributed to the appellation created in the territory where Chianti wine was originally produced and the only one which nowadays can geographically bear this name (e.g. Greve, Castellina and Radda "in Chianti"). With 566 members, of whom approximately 371 are bottlers, the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico now represents 96% of the entire denomination and has up-to-date, well-structured and professional organization in charge of the mission for which it was created: protecting and valorizing Chianti Classico wine and its trademark.
